The PVF Roundtable held its initial General Assembly Meeting of 2006 on February 21st, with the Mayor of Houston, Bill White, as the Featured Speaker. Mayor White addressed the problems his administration has with air and water pollution, vehicle traffic (both automobiles and trucks)and the control of rail traffic within the metropolitan area. In addition, Mayor White informed those present the steps that he is taking to improve the emergency evacuation of Houston residents in the event of another natural or man-made disaster. Obviously, those problems are both complex and inter-related and will take time, effort and money to solve. However, it would appear that for the first time in several decades, a serious effort is being made to mitigate the problems these issues are causing all of us. In addition, Mayor White replied to questions on rising taxes, an issue that affects almost every member of the Roundtable. Following Mayor White's address, PVF Director Morris Beschloss took the podium to inform those present that the Wholesaler magazine has named Affiliated Distributors AND The PVF Roundtable to the magazine's "Hall of Fame." The Directors would like to thank both Mayor White and Director Beschloss.
